January 1, 2008

Even though our "official" training started last week, it's taken me a while to get my blog bearings to post...so Lauire's already beating me...again. Thanks to Donnie, we're following the 30 week "Competitive Program" from Don Fink's book, be Iron fit. Last week it called for a total of 6 hours: 2 for swimming, 2 biking and 2 running. We did zero swimming, but managed to bike/spin and get the running in. Hmm, totally modifying the program the first week...so much for discipline.

Week 2

Monday: Spin 45 min. Yoga 45 min.

Tuesday: "Rest" Day-"Rest" consisted of entertaining 35 people culminating in throwing massive quantities of confetti at midnight. This was followed by loosing electricity for an hour and a half (apparently the adults cue to go home, leaving all their children for a cozy 14 kid sleepover.) "Rest" continued as we cleaned up by candlelight, finally got power back, vacuumed 'til 3 am, and then made a leisurely breakfast of bacon and eggs with our brewd of houseguests.

Rest is clearly overrated, so Laurie and I hit the road for a 17 mile bike ride. Keith continued true Iron Dunnigan training and tackled the kitchen, vacuumed 6 more times, played Uno, Risk, and threw lunch meat at any kids who mentioned lunch. OK, I'm digressing...but I think the day speaks volumes for the "motivation" aspect of training.

Tomorrow is supposed to be a 30 min. bike, followed by 15 min. run. I'll try to get better about not rambling, getting off topic, and just posting the workout and nutrition. For the cold hard facts without the annoying fluff go to Laurie's blog http://reluctantblogger-laurie.blogspot.com/

Happy New Year!
