January 4, 2008

OK, so Wed. didn't go exactly as planned. Still suffering from post-holiday stress syndrome and felt the need to pack up any item related to Christmas. Exchanged bike-run work out for bulb packing-tree hauling. I figure it's more of an upper body workout, but burned an equal number of calories.

Thursday: After attempting above upper body workout, decided I need strength training. Went to the "barbell" class at Lifetime. I did 15 min of cardio on the eliptical and then 1 hour of pumping (arms quivering with 5 lb weights) iron. It was a humbling experience.

Took my dog for a power walk around the block...which includes Ilchester hill, so I felt like I had reached my lunge quota for the day. It's depressing to get into an anaerobic zone while walking.

Topped off the workout with a 2008 return to swimming. Ran my mouth and missed the warm-up, but probably swam 45 minutes. Again, finished out the day the same humbling, painful way I started. Basebuiding is hard.

Friday:
Ran 1 hour and 45 minutes. Tried to stay in zone 2, but as soon as I started putting one foot in front of the other on an incline higher than 2 degrees, I blew it. Did better with eating, still trying to wean myself from leftover holiday goodies. Will hopefully be able to post less-embarrassing food choices next week.
